A new solar panel installation in Braintree will be one of the largest council-owned systems in the country.
The 874 panel, 1,980 square metre installation at Braintree Swimming and Fitness at Braintree Freeport is set to be completed shortly.
Robert Mitchell, deputy cabinet member with responsibility for carbon management at Braintree Council, said: “Following the successful installation projects at the council offices in Braintree and at Halstead Leisure Centre, the latest project really demonstrates our commitment to carbon reduction and sustainability.
“On top of the £30,000 benefit made at Halstead, this new array will benefit the council by a further £45,000.”
All of the energy will be used on site, generating more than 218,000 kWh of electricity each year and reducing carbon emissions by 193 tonnes.
