A biker has presented an air ambulance charity with a cheque for £2,000 after they rescued a girl involved in a motorbike accident.

Steve Cowling, of High Garrett, also took his wife Grace and grandson Jake to take a look at the helicopter at the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust airfield in Earls Colne on Monday.

The keen rider decided to sell his 1986 Yamaha Virago xv 1000 after a fatal crash happened in his road on December 18.

Motorcyclist Bryan Myers, 42, was killed in the accident and is believed to have struck 16-year-old Hedingham School student Helen Harvey before being hit by a car.

The bike fetched £2,020 on eBay and Mr Cowling handed it over to it’s new owner on February 23.

A spokesman for the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust said: “We had great pleasure in welcoming Grace and Steve Cowling and their grandson Jake to the airbase and showing them around the helicopter.

“To raise over £2,000 in the motorbike auction is outstanding and thank you very much to the generous winning bidder.”
