A Colchester councillor will stand for the Witham constituency in May’s General Election.
Jo Hayes represent the Liberal Democrats in a bid to unseat the Conservative MP Priti Patel.
Mrs Hayes is a practicing barrister and has been a councillor for Castle Ward since 2012.
She said: “Having lived in both town and countryside in north Essex I believe my background enables me to represent the varied communities in the constituency.”
Also standing for the seat are Labour candidate John Clarke, Green nominee James Abbott and UKIP man Gary Cockrill.
