Fraudster cons Witham shops by using fake £50 notes
Shops in Witham have fallen foul of a fraudster using fake £50 notes.
Flower Works, in Newland Street, and Feathers hair salon, in the Newlands shopping centre, were both targeted on Saturday after a man used two counterfeit notes to buy a bouquet of flowers and some hair care products.
Police are now warning shopkeepers to remain vigilant.
Susan Smith, who works at Flower Works, said: “I think Feathers was the first shop where he went.
“After there he came in here.
“We didn’t give him any change at all, he bought something worth £60 and he used a fake £50 and a real £10 note."
