School leaders are working hard to improve a primary school in Bocking, Ofsted inspectors have claimed.

Inspector Wendy Varney visited Bocking Primary School, in Church Street, last month after the watchdog criticised standards, finding that the quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and the leadership and management at the school all required improvement.

Inspectors praised the behaviour and safety of pupils, rating it as good.

In the first monitoring inspection since Ofsted visited the school in July, the watchdog found that governors and teachers had implemented actions to improve teaching.

Mrs Varney, who met with governors, headteacher Rosalind Welch and was taken on a tour of the school, wrote in a report: “A new deputy headteacher, an experienced teacher and two newly-qualified teachers joined the school in September.

“Three teaching assistants and three governors have also joined the school."
