Police are appealing for information about a robbery in King Georges playing field in Braintree.
The incident happened on Wednesday, November 5 at 11.40pm.
The victim was sitting on a bench with friends when he was approached by a man who hit him in the face several times.
The suspect then took a bag from the victim's lap and rummaged through it before removing some keys and throwing them at the victim.
He then ran off with the bag, which contained a Nokia Lumina mobile phone and a small amount of cash.
The victim was left with bruising and swelling to his face.
The suspect was wearing dark clothes, and was possibly part of a group of people.
