The number of jobseekers claiming benefits is continuing to decline in Braintree.

Jobcentre Plus in Braintree had 1,034 people registered for Jobseeker’s Allowance up until the end of July, 939 claimants in September and now is at its lowest for years at 910.

Dave Cope, customer services operations manager for the Braintree branch, said the number of claimants hadn’t been below 1,000 since November 2003.

He said: “Across the district, we have dropped another 3.5 per cent on the last month and that’s pretty good.

“Across Essex, we are down to 18,653 people who are now claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance.

“We are at 910, which is the lowest figure since December 2002, which is way beyond pre-recession.

“We have significantly fewer people claiming in Braintree than prior to the economic downturn."
