Commuters' parking woes could soon be solved as a new 66-space car park near Witham railway station is set to open next week.
Work to renovate the site, which adjoins the existing station car park in Easton Road, was completed at the end of October but Braintree Council is waiting until new parking charges for the district are decided upon before it is opened.
Braintree Council agreed to buy the site at the end of 2013, which used to house a three-storey office block, built in the 1970s and demolished in 2011.
The council spent £625,000 to buy the site and renovate it.
District councillors will decide on the new charges for the car park, estimated to be £6 per day, at a cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Once parking charges are decided, the car park will be open in a matter of days.
However town councillors and residents disputed how well the car park would serve the town.
