Witham is officially out of the recession according to job centre chiefs as unemployment falls by more than a third in just one year.

Latest figures show that the number of people in the constituency, including Hatfield Peverel, Kelvedon and Silver End, who are now in work is the highest it has been in seven years.

Statistics released by the Office for National Statistics, show that only 767 people are now claiming Job Seekers Allowance - a drop of 32 per cent compared to the same time last year, when 1,142 people were claiming the benefit.

Dave Cope, senior business development manager at Essex Job Centre Plus, said: “We work on a pre-recession figure and certainly Witham is there."
