Town councillors are hoping to bring in free parking in Witham on special event days, such as the puppet festival.
Councillors at Witham Town Council have suggested that the town clerk should write to Braintree District Council requesting for a free parking day for next year’s puppet festival.
At a recent community committee meeting they expressed concern that parking wardens from the North Essex Parking Partnership were checking and ticketing cars during this year’s event on September 20.
It was felt that free or subsidised parking could be offered in a bid to get more people interested in coming to the town on those days.
Councillor Bill Rose said: “It is something that the town clerk was considering for next year to speak to our partners to come up with a subsidiary.
“It would be good to have free parking."
