Homes and businesses should have a better power network, thanks to a £6million investment.
UK Power Networks has built a new substation south of Witham and laid 24km of high voltage underground cable.
It will help meet increasing demand for electricity from 84,000 customers in Braintree and Witham and reduce demand on the existing substations in the two towns.
The work took 11 months and included tunnelling under the River Chelmer.
