Sixty members of Dorothy Morley’s family were by her side as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

In her biggest birthday party to date, Mrs Morley spent time chatting to family and friends while sharing her birthday cake amongst the residents at St Dominics care home, in London Road, Kelvedon.

The great-grandmother-of-four, who also has seven grandchildren, was “thrilled” to receive her birthday card from the Queen and considered herself lucky as she heard they could be stopped in the future.

She had three children with husband John, who joined the Royal Air Force and was in the Spitfire squadron during the Second World War.

He worked in the planning department in local government and even worked for councils in Braintree and Witham.

She said: “I had a wonderful day, it really was lovely."
