It has been one year since a fire completely destroyed a Braintree infant school and things have never looked better.

John Ray Infant School, in Notley Road, was burnt to the ground when a fire raged through the building on August 31 last year.

Firefighters worked into the night and the next day to protect neighbouring John Ray Junior School and flats.

Since then, the Year one and Year two pupils spent half of the first term at the former site of Takeley Primary School, near Stansted Airport, before moving into their portable cabin classrooms at the junior school and Notley High School sites.

Headteacher Sandra Way said thanks to the support of the community and the teachers’ hard work, the students schoolwork and attainment results have not suffered.
