A teenager died after he hanged himself from a boat while on a team-building trip.

Nineteen-year-old Glenn Thake, who had been living at the Salvation Army’s Braintree Foyer, died while on a 12-week outreach programme run by the Prince’s Trust in Bradwell-on-Sea.

The former John Ray Infant and Junior School pupil, who went to Notley High School and Honywood Community Science School, had been involved in an altercation and punched a wall hours before his death.

When youth support worker Karl Silverback, told him he would be taken home and not allowed to complete the course, which still had 10 weeks left, Glenn said: “I am not going home, I’d rather be dead.”

At Chelmsford Coroner’s Court last Friday, Mr Silverback said: “There was an altercation and it sort of got out of hand.
