Firefighters tackled a house fire in Great Dunmow, which caused a street to close.
Fire engines from Stansted, Dunmow and Braintree attended the scene in North Street at 4.52pm yesterday.
The incident commander said that the fire was in a first floor bedroom.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus are using two hose reel jets and a covering jet to tackle the fire.
The fire was extinguished by 6.32pm.
Crews in breathing apparatus cut away walls and used thermal imaging cameras to ensure no hot-spots remained.
North Street was closed while the fire was ablaze.
