Jess has only been playing for one year
A Witham schoolgirl has been selected for the Essex basketball squad after playing the sport for just one school year.
Jess Hopkins, 12, only started shooting hoops when she joined Year 7 at Maltings Academy, in Spinks Lane, in September.
Head of PE, Ray Bias, said: “We spotted the potential in Jess straight away and so sent her for trials with Essex where she was selected for the under-13s team. She was then put forward for the eastern region trials for Essex."
