VIDEO: Disgruntled Game employee proves YouTube hit

AN EMPLOYEE who lost his job made a song and dance about it - and ended up a YouTube hit.

Tom Edwards, of Brightlingsea, received a call to tell him not to return to work at retailer Game, in Colchester’s Culver Square, after the company was placed into administration.

The shop was closed but another in Lion Walk has remained open.

Tom decided to channel his grumbling and wrote and videoed his own song while staff were clearing out the shop.

It has now had almost 13,000 hits on YouTube.

Tom, 31, of Red Barn Road, said: “I’m really surprised about how much people have seen it.

“I remember when we first put it up we were excited because we got 300 views.

“Now we’ve got more than 12,000.”

Tom wrote the song the morning he was made redundant and returned three days later to film the video in one shoot, because he was afraid security would turf him out.

“I have had a really nice reaction from all over the country, with people closing their stores getting in touch,” he said.

“I feel like I have spoken out for them a little bit.

“We all felt a bit dispondent. We got in on the Monday morning, got an email telling us the news and then had closed up by the afternoon."

Around 3,000 jobs, including those at Colchester’s second Game store in Lion Walk, are to be saved after a buyer was found for the company.
