A GRAMMAR school is celebrating its second highest number of students accepted into Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Colchester Royal Grammar School, in Lexden Road, saw 34 pupils receive offers from the Oxbridge colleges.
They have all received letters of acceptance following a rigorous selection process. It compares with last year’s record figure of 41 offers.
Headteacher Ken Jenkinson said: “The competition seems to get fiercer every year and the students deserve every credit in coming through a demanding selection process.”
Oxford University has issued 11 offers to pupils and Cambridge has accepted 23 students. Subjects range from music to medicine.
Evie Hampson, who received an offer to study economics at Cambridge’s Murray Edwards College, said: “I was delighted and relieved to have received an offer.

Yes it is an achievement but the most selective courses aren't always at Oxbridge e.g. economics at LSE, medicine at Imperial College etc. I would rate getting on a law course at UCL more highly than getting on an Anthropology course at Oxford.
The job market is so tough these days that pupils should think more about the degree course they are choosing rather than the logo that will be printed on their degree certificate.
