THE long-awaited regeneration of the former Severalls Hospital site has moved a step closer.
Colchester Council has received a planning application to build 248 homes at the decaying former mental health hospital, which has been the target of vandals, firebugs and “urban explorers” since it closed in 1997.
Land north east of the main hospital would have 218 two, three and four bedrooms houses and just 30 one and two bedroom flats built on it.
A total of 62 of the homes would be affordable, and there would be 258 parking spaces.
