POLICE are asking Colchester residents to be on the look-out for any suspicious activity from their neighbours after cannabis plants were discovered.
Six officers found the plants at a property in Bowes Mews, Colchester, at 8am yesterday.
PC Lea Westby, from the Colchester town neighbourhood policing team, said: “Officers from the Colchester town team, supported by the Special Constabulary, have removed in excess of 20 cultivated plants from an address.
“This was in response to intelligence from the local community and is part of our ongoing action against drug offences in the district.”
Insp Paul Butcher is now urging people to be on the look-out.
He said: “We want to appeal to the public and make sure they are aware of cannabis factories and how to spot them.
“If they suspect a neighbour is growing cannabis, they should get in touch immediately.
“Any information we receive from the public is completely confidential.”
Mr Butcher said the main signs were blacked-out windows, or keeping the curtains down all the time, condensation and different people coming and going at different times.
Anyone who has any concerns about their area is asked to call the police on 0300 3334444.
* A 30-year-old man from Colchester was being questioned at Colchester police station last night.
