Conservative councillors will meet on Tuesday morning to elect a replacement for Lord Hanningfield

THE NEW Leader of Essex County Council will be announced tomorrow after crunch talks by Tory councillors.

A Conservative group meeting will take place at 8:30am Tuesday 9 February before a meeting of the full council at 10:00am.

The new leader will be announced, with current deputy leader Peter Martin the front-runner.

Lord Hanningfield, the previous leader, stood down last week after he was charged with fiddling his House of Lords expenses.
