THE trial into the murder and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl has begun in New Zealand.

Liberty Templeman, known as Libby, had moved to the country from Brightlingsea in 2005.

The former Colne Community College student moved with her parents and brother for a better life.

Libby disappeared while visiting friends on November 1 2008, and her partially clad body was discovered 24 hours later.

A 16-year-old boy, who was just 14 at the time, has denied one charge of murder and one count of sexual assault.

The trial continues.
