AN Army vet from North Essex has been dubbed the ‘Herriot of Helmand’ after setting up a clinic to look after farm animals in Afghanistan.
Captain Miles Malone, from Mount Bures, runs the free monthly sessions to both improve the health of the livestock and the prosperity of local farmers.
His main tasks are de-worming, de-lousing and vaccinating goats, sheep, cows and donkeys, as well as tending to any that are poorly.
The 28-year-old's regular job is to look after the search and guard dogs of 102 Theatre Military Working Dogs Support Unit, based in Sennelager, Germany.
