THUGS knocked a man to the ground and robbed him of his wallet in a Brightlingsea street.
The attack on the 41-year-old happened as he was walking down Promenade Way between 10pm and 10.30pm last night.
Two men approached him from behind, pushed him to the ground and took his wallet from his pocket, before they ran off.
The victim, who is from Newmarket, Suffolk, and was visiting a friend, did not get a good look at the two men, and cannot provide a description.
He was left with minor grazes, and although his wallet was later recovered nearby by police, it was minus the small amount of cash the man had been carrying.
DC Claire Lukey from Clacton CID, who is investigating, said: "This is quite unusual in Brightlingsea which is generally a nice quiet town and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area near the swimming pool and beach huts and may have seen two men hanging around or saw the incident, to contact me.
“Someone locally may know who is responsible and I would like them to contact me as I don't want this to happen to anyone else."
Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Clacton CID on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111.
