POLICE are still trying to speak to travellers who moved onto a field in Langham.

Travellers turned up at the recreation ground behind Langham Community Centre in School Road, at about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Pensioner Bob Schofield and other members of the public tried to stop them coming through the gates, but were unable to.

Essex Police attended on Wednesday, but are still talking with the travellers.

A police spokesman said: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment on parish council owned lane in School Road.

"We have been to the site and our Gypsy, Traveller, Rural Engagement Team is liaising with parties involved.

"There are believed to be nine vehicles and nine caravans.

"We will continue to monitor the situation."
