A LIFESAVING defibrillator is just £550 away from being installed in Shrub End.

Residents are pooling together to fundraise for the £1,350 piece of kit, taking over from Debbie Shore who first began the campaign.

Lib Dem ward councillor Lyn Barton kickstarted the fund with a £500 donation from her locality budget and the New Inn Pub landlords are putting their money where their pints are.

Joe Hanrahan and partner Shannon Boyle are hosting a joint fundraising event and party to celebrate having been awarded CAMRA pub of the year for the second consecutive year.

This Saturday they are going from six pumps to eight and will donate £1 to the kitty from every pint of ale sold until Sunday.

Fundraiser Peter Greening, who was born in Shrub End, said: "Once there is a defibrillator in place, the intent is to work with first responders and look at ways we can get them across the borough.

"As landlords of the New Inn for just two-and-a-half years, Joe and Shannon have raised in excess of £5,000 for local charities.

"That's incredible.

"The local First Responders Team is also offering two-hour courses for between five and 25 people to show how easily these machines are operated and how user-friendly they are."

The party starts from 7.30pm tomorrow with live music from Sean Roff starting just after 8pm.
