A SCOUT group held a fun day to celebrate an important moment in its history.

The 1st Stanway Scouts will turn 100 in the coming weeks and to mark this momentous occasion, hundreds of members and their families joined in Saturday's celebratory fun day in a field off Villa Road, in Colchester.

A variety of different activities were on offer throughout the afternoon including a bouncy castle, mobile zoo, raffle and tombola.

The scout band helped provide some of the entertainment, whilst a museum set up in Stanway Village Hall explained the rich history of the scouts group.

St John's Ambulance and the Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance, as were a number of Colchester's well known faces such as High Steward Sir Bob Russel and Deputy Mayor Peter Chillingworth and his wife Ann.

Scout Leader Haidee Roberston said: "It was a really, really good day and I think the children had a brilliant time.

"The main thing was it provided an opportunity for the children to experience activities they wouldn't normally be able to.

"All the staff had a really good day. We were lucky with the weather and there was a brilliant atmosphere.

"There was plenty of excited kids and smiling adults.

"It was wonderful."
