FIRST Class Brass celebrated a successful year of fundraising having donated £614 to four worthy charities.

Band members voted for the Robin Cancer Trust, Headway, Diabetes UK and Ehlers-Danlos UK to be beneficiaries of their fundraising last October.

A portion of the proceeds from raffles, the band's annual quiz night and Christmas concerts in Waitrose last December were donated.

Andy Rose, communications officer for the band, said: "At the start of each academic year, each band member, a family member or a friend of 1st Class Brass are given a list of ten charities and asked to nominate four they would like the band to possibly support in the coming year.

"We have a very loyal band of supporters and volunteers, but like everybody else, we could always do with more."

The band was established in October 2013 and is open to all ages and abilities.

Their rehearsals take place at St. John's and Highwoods Community Centre, Highwoods Square, each Friday during term time.
