A CHILD is being treated for minor injuries after being hit by a van outside a primary school in Witham.

Police were called to Cressing Road, Witham, near Templars Academy, this morning at around 8.45am.

The child is being treated at the scene for minor injuries by ambulance staff and will then be taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: "We received a call today at 8.40am to reports of an RTC involving a van and a pedestrian on Cressing Road in Witham.

"We dispatched a rapid response vehicle, and ambulance crew to assist who treated a child for minor injuries before taking them to Broomfield Hospital for further care."

The scene was described by one witness this morning as 'chaos' and traffic was blocked in both directions.

Essex Police are still investigating the incident.
