DOZENS of cub scouts got the chance to see behind the scenes at Colchester United when they visited the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Youngsters from Colchester North District Cubs cheered on the U’s in their 2-1 victory over Luton Town and also got to play on astroturf pitches at the ground, as well as working with the club photographer, groundsman and kitman.

Standard bearers welcomed the players onto the pitch and there was also a parade at half time.

Assistant district commissioner of the cub scouts Bill Miller is also a matchday steward at the ground and helped arrange the visit.

He said: “It was successful and the children had a fantastic time.

“This is the second time we have done it and the club really bent over backwards for us.

“It was the second time we have visited and the club want to make it an annual thing which would be amazing.

“As a steward I stand near the tunnel and have gotten to know a few people involved, and it was the media manager Matt Hudson who suggested we do it after I told him about my work with the scouts.

“During the parade it was good to hear the Colchester supporters applaud them as they passed.

“It was a really great day, everybody enjoyed it and to top it off the U’s won.”
