CHAMELEON'S Web return with a very appropriate play for their ever changing roster of productions.

That's George Bernard Shaw's classic tale of class, independence and love, Pygmalion, which today is perhaps best known for the musical that was based on it, My Fair Lady.

The play, named after the Greek mythological figure that fell in love with one of his own sculptures, sees professor of phonetics Henry Higgins make a bet that he can train Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, to pass for a duchess at an ambassador's garden party.

A witty commentary on the British class system of Edwardian times, as well as the increasingly vocal Women's movement, Higgins believes by teaching her to speak properly he will win his bet. Little does he know what he also might win.

Once again director Suzanne Bailey has gathered an impeccable cast including Phoebe Stringer as Eliza, Joseph Sales as Higgins, John Roberts as Pickering and Sara Green as Mrs Higgins. Also in the cast is Caroline Roberts as Mrs Pearce, Donna Francis as Mrs Eynsford-Hill and newcomer to the group, Ben Holyman who plays Freddie.

Their two weekend run starts on Saturday, March 25, at Tollesbury Community Centre in East Street at 3pm and 7.30pm and then at the Mersea Centre in High Street on Sunday, March 26, at 3pm.

The following weekend the play takes place at the Manifest Theatre in Manningtree on April 1 at 7.30pm, before ending its short run at the Headgate Theatre in Colchester on April 2 at 3pm and 7pm.

Tickets are £10, £8 for concessions, available by calling 01206 366000 for the Headgate and 033 666 3366 for the rest of the shows.
