A WORRIED mum has hit out at plans to stop her parking outside her house saying it will make life impossible for her and her autistic son.

Essex County Council’s revamped plans for Lexden Road, which initially included a proposal for a massive bus lane before backlash from campaigners, now features a no waiting zone close to the home of Michele Clement and her children one-year-old Aurora, and Sherlock, four, who suffers from autism and dyspraxia.

Sherlock’s conditions make his behaviour unpredictable and clumsy, meaning Ms Clement often has to carry both of her children from the car to the door and believes parking any further away would make her life next to impossible.

She said: “It is essential I am able to park our car as close to our house as possible in order to get my children safely in and out of the car.

“I cannot let go of my son near a busy road, he falls and trips constantly, and I obviously have to carry my daughter.

“To be unable to park near my house would make it impossible for me to do what seems simple to most people such as get the weekly food shop, as I cannot carry my daughter, hold my son and carry in several bags of shopping.

“Currently I park my car very close to our front door take in my son so he is safe, take in my daughter and make her safe, then run back and forth to the car carrying in shopping.

“I can see both children through this entire process -this would be impossible if I could not park outside my house.”

Ms Clement has lived in the road for the last 14 years and believes the plans are universally unpopular with all of her neighbours.

She added: “If we were not able to park outside the house the next logical place would be in Lexden Grove, where parking is very limited and the residents seem to be acquiring more cars per household as time goes by.

“This would entail crossing the extremely busy Lexden Road.

“My son’s autism means that busy, noisy places cause a great deal of distress to him, sometimes causing him to have complete meltdowns.”

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “We are currently reviewing responses to the consultation on the amended proposals for Lexden Road, following the consultation closure on Monday.

“We will respond to all residents who have shared their feedback in due course.”
