GREENSTEAD Community Centre can move ahead with plans to update its facilities now the centre is £1,500 richer.

Tesco staff, at the Hythe, took great delight in donating the amount to the nearby Hawthorn Avenue centre.

James Cranston, manager of the Greenstead Road store, presented a cheque for the amount to Nicola Davey, chair of trustees and mayor Julie Young, who is also a Greenstead councillor.

The centre will rejuvenate the café and community area which will include buying new tables and seating.

It currently relies heavily on the income generated through hall hire and its Filling Station Café.

Mr Cranston said: “Greenstead Community Centre is a great facility for the community and we're delighted to be able to help with the refurbishment of the Filling Station Café, which will help maintain it as such a great facility.”
