BUDDING young writers could see their articles appear in the Gazette in the third edition of an annual competition.

Write Wai PR and Copywriting Services has joined forces with health charity Kids Backs 4 The Future for the Get Healthy Writing Competition.

Youngsters aged between 11 and 16 are urged to write a health-based article about something which has inspired them.

The top three entrants will have their pieces published in the Gazette, get a tour of the newsroom and join a news conference where the days editorial decisions are thrashed out.

Founder of Write Wai PR & Copywriting Services Sally Anderson-Wai said: “I have a passion for writing and want to encourage young people in their writing ability. “Our Get Healthy Writing Competition is a great way of starting a writing career and the top three entries will be published in The Gazette.”

Lyndee Oscar, founder of kids Backs 4 the Future, said: “Millions of pounds are spent each year on patients suffering from ill health or injuries.

“We want young people to write a feature or news story advising people how they can improve their health, live a healthier lifestyle or avoid injuries or diseases.”

Other prizes include a Fitbit gadget, Amazon vouchers and a school backpack.

Articles should be between 300 and 400 words long, and contains quotes from relevant people, facts and figures and a photograph. Entrants must also include a 200 word accompanying piece explaining why they chose the subject and the research which went into their work.

The judges will then decide the winners based on how much it inspired them, the level of research and their additional material.
