THORPE residents are in danger because a new lamp post won’t have power until December.

Former parish councillor Ray Chrystal campaigned to have the lamp post erected when one on the site was removed two years ago.

A new silver lamp post was erected in February in Colchester Road at the end of the Crescent.

“It looked wonderful except that it did not work,” the 68-year-old explained.

The former policeman complained several times to the parish council it had no electricity but was told it would be fixed.

He went back to the parish council several times only to be told they had contacted Essex County Highways and the matter was in hand.

“The light is still not connected to an electricity supply. It is not rocket science nit seems to be beyond the Highways Department to organise this. I went back to the Parish Council the other night only to be told that it is out to contractors to be done but that there is no date for it,” he said.

“With Summer Time ending this month, residents who walk along that part of the Crescent will be at great risk as it is pitch black there,” he added.

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “Changes to the electricity grid have caused an issue. This light will be connected as part of programme beginning in December.”

Mr Chrystal said in response: “I don’t know what to say, It’s been like that since February. It’s not good enough!”
