SPRUCED up with a fresh vinyl - an Abellio Greater Anglia Class 156 train has undergone rebranding to promote a new rail line.

The Gainsborough line train was unveiled at Marks Tey Station and is the third in a series of four Abellio trains to be made over.

The train operates across Abellio’s East Anglia rail network and will help to market the Gainsborough line which travels between Sudbury and Marks Tey.

Jonathan Denby, head of corporate affairs for Abellio, said: “This is a great way to promote the Gainsborough Line across the region and encourage travel on this scenic route.”

“This rail line starts at the attractive market town of Sudbury and through the scenic countryside including the picturesque village of Chappel, which is home to the East Anglian Railway Museum.”

The project is a joint initiative between Abellio and the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership. Through the CRP, Abellio works with local authorities, organisations and groups to encourage greater use of the line to Sudbury. It aims to achieve this by building community engagement, improving station facilities, increasing the profile of the service and developing projects, to make the service more convenient and attractive.

Jayne Sumner, rail engagement manager for Essex and South Suffolk CRP, added: “With the website address highlighted on the train, we hope it will prompt travellers to find out more about the local area and use the train to explore it.”
