DONATIONS have been flooding in for a teenager battling brain cancer.

Harry Sadler, 17, needs ‘proton beam therapy’ in Florida to try to destroy cancer cells for good.

While the NHS can fund flights to the US and the £90,000 proton treatment, his family is now struggling to make ends meet in their day-to-day lives.

A fundraising page has been set up to support their daily living expenses such as food and bills, with taxi fares coming in at £100 one way to London for hospital appointments.

More than £2,000 has come in since the appeal was launched ten days ago, including individual donations of £1,000 and £100.

His mum, Carol, said: "People are generous when they know about it.

"We have asked people keep on sharing the page."

Harry, who has a twin Ben, and another older brother and sister, is at home in Colchester and having morphine medication to help with his pain.

Carol added: "He is just standing straight but says it is unfair.

"He is a very humble child, he doesn't ask for much."

Harry’s dad Ivan died after a cardiac arrest on Clacton seafront in 2014, aged 46, so the loss has added to the family’s woes and money is tight.

Carol, who has sold her wedding ring and car, said the hospital treating Harry had even offered him counselling to help him comprehend his treatment and bereavement for his dad.

A visit to that hospital - University College Hospital London - on Tuesday established Harry needs another bout of four-hour surgery next week to tackle the growth before radiotherapy stats.

The radiotherapy is intended to be an interim treatment before Harry, a basketball fan, can have the proton treatment.

Proton therapy differs from traditional radiotherapy as it doesn’t damage healthy cells.

In May doctors discovered Harry had a tumour the size of a cricket ball growing in his head, after two months of agonising headaches.

Two ops in the UK have already managed to remove most of the cancer.

At the moment Harry’s A-Levels at Colchester Sixth Form College are on hold until he is back to health.
