RAIL passengers are facing long delays after an emergency incident blocked all train lines from Norwich to London.

British Transport Police confirmed it was called to Romford station to reports of a person being hit by a train.

The line is now clear, but Greater Anglia has warned passengers to expect delays until at least 2pm.

There is major disruption on lines to Braintree, Clacton, Ipswich, Norwich and Southend Victoria.

Sixteen trains have so far been cancelled while emergency services deal with the incident between Liverpool Street and Shenfield.

Abellio Greater Anglia have advised passengers travelling between London and Norwich to use the following alternative route in both directions:

  • Passengers travelling from Liverpool Street may travel on London Underground services to King’s Cross using the Circle, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan lines between Liverpool Street and King’s Cross and the Northern line between Moorgate and King’s Cross.
  • From here take a Great Northern train service to Cambridge and Ely and an East Midlands Train service from Ely to Norwich.
  • Tickets will be valid in both directions.

TfL Rail services are also affected by this problem.

Abellio Greater Anglia tickets are being accepted on C2C rail services from Southend Central, Upminster via Barking and West Ham to London Fenchurch Street.

Abellio Greater Anglia tickets are being accepted on London Underground reasonable routes between London Fenchurch Street and Liverpool Street from Tower Hill, Aldgate and reasonable routes.

Customers with advance purchase tickets are advised that restrictions have been lifted, and they may travel earlier or later today, than the time specified on their ticket.
