AN Alice and Wonderland display has gone on show at Colchester's Hollytrees museum.

A copy of the classic Lewis Carol novel, printed in 1895, will take pride of place in the special display, which will be showcased with bespoke lighting and projections.

Three distinctive themed cases - The Alice Case, The Mad Hatter Case and The Red Queen Case - show a range of related objects, from antique ‘drink me’ and ‘eat me’ medicine and poison bottles, to rabbits and dormice from the Natural History Museum collection.

The display celebrates the novel's 150th anniversary.

Tim Young, Colchester Council's portfolio holder for Planning, Community Safety and Culture, said: “This fantastic new display fits perfectly in Hollytrees Museum and is a real must see for families. It really does inspire wonder in younger and older visitors alike. I’d encourage anyone visiting Colchester to pop in and take a look for some special festive magic!

“Hollytrees Museum is free to enter and if you are heading to Colchester Castle or to the Winter Wonderland and Ice Rink why not drop in to take a look?”

The display will be running until the end of February.

The museum is free to enter and also hosts a childhood and domestic life collection.

It is also home to the Colchester Visitor Information Centre, where a new Alice in Wonderland range has been added to accompany the display.
