TEMPERATURES in Colchester hit 30C this week, but apparently it’s still not quite hot enough for Colchester Council.

The heaters in the Queen Street bus station were switched on and blasting out heat at the start of the week.

Ian Richards, from Old Health, Colchester, travels to Bures and claims the heaters have been on all week.

He said: “How much is it costing them to run that? There are four heaters in there.

“It is a waste of energy. They are putting up these wind turbines and turning off street lights and then they do that. They’ve been on all week – just what you need when it’s about 30 degrees.

“They need to be held to account.”

Mr Richards contacted Colchester Council, but was told it was Essex County Council’s responsibility. But when he called County Hall, he was referred back to Colchester.

He said: “At that point, I was almost losing the will to live.”

The Gazette ran a story last year when the same thing happened.

The heaters were turned off yesterday shortly after the Gazette contacted the council to ask why they were on.

A spokesman for Colchester Council said: “We would like to thank the customer who came forward to report the heating issue during this period of hot weather. It was a one-off error on the Council’s behalf that has now been rectified.

“We have put processes in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
