FUNDRAISERS took a walk under the stars to raise cash the local breast cancer unit.

It was the seventh year the ten-mile Starlight Walk had been held.

It started at Playgolf Colchester, in Bakers Lane, Lexden, passing along London Road, Stanway, Southway, North Station and Bergholt Road, before returning to the golf club.

Thewalk was in aid of the Colchester Hospitals Charity’s fund for the breast cancer unit at Colchester General Hospital.

This year, organisers are hoping to raise about £5,000, through sponsorship money is still coming in.

The event was organised by Nicky Withycombe and Karen Robertson.

Mrs Withycombe said: “From the feed back we have had it has been the best event so far. We had about 140 people taking part.

“Everyone had such a nice time. I hope the money collected reflects what a good night we had.

“We all knew why we were there. We had a few cancer survivors along, which all makes it seem worthwhile.

“It was a brilliant night, tinged with sadness, as a number of people aren’t around any more who have done it in the past.

“A big thank-you to all our volunteer marshalls. Without them we couldn’t run it.”
