A 21-year-old man accused of stabbing a father in an alleyway in Clacton town centre will face trial in September.
James Gregoire, 54, of Old Road, Clacton died after being stabbed in the alleyway close to Clacton Covered Market after an altercation started in a flat in High Street.
Darren Gilbert, 21, of Holland Road, Clacton appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of threatening to kill.
Appearing in a prison issued jumper and trousers, Mr Gilbert did not speak during the brief hearing.
The trial is due to take place on September 21 this year.
Mr Gilbert will next appear for a plea and case management hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on June 22.
His Honour Judge Charles Gratwicke remanded Mr Gilbert in custody.
