A FUGITIVE allegedly responsible for major drug deals in Colchester has been captured.

Paul Monk, 54, originally from Romford, was named as one of the ten most wanted fugitives by the National Crime Agency.

He was arrested in a luxury villa in Alicante, Spain as part of Operation Captura, an operation designed to catch fugitives who fled abroad.

At the time Monk was supervising the laying of a marble patio around his swimming pool when armed police swooped.

An imitation firearm, silencer and 125,000 euros were discovered at the property.

Monk is wanted on suspicion of conspiracy to supply cocaine and conspiracy to supply cannabis.

He was allegedly involved in the seizure of 23 kilos of herbal cannabis and one kilo of cannabis resin in October 2013 in Colchester.

He is also allegedly connected to the handover of a kilo of cocaine in Cockfosters, north London, in May 2013.

The arrests come less than a month after an appeal for information about the men's whereabouts.

A total of 68 out of 86 fugitives on the Operation Captura list have now been caught.
