IT'S time to raise some dough for our heroes!

Wounded soldiers charity Help for Heroes is hosting its seventh annual charity bake sale in Colchester on Saturday, May 2.

The mammoth mouth-watering event attracts hundreds of baked goods every year and helps raise thousands of pounds for wounded soldiers.

Previously it has been known as the Colossal Cake Sale, but it has been renamed Bake for Heroes. It takes place in Lion Walk square between 9am and 4.30pm.

Budding bakers are being encouraged to dig out their wooden spoons and get creating cakes and cookies to sell.

The goods will be picked up at collection points on May 1 by members of Help for Heroes.

On sale day, VIPs will march to the event from the Town Hall in High Street, along with Colchester and District Pipes and Drums and Town Watch, at 11am.

At 2pm, there will be a performance by the Colchester Historical Dance group.

To date, the annual bake sales have raised £50,000.

Sue Morgan, Help for Heroes’ county co-ordinator, said: “We could not do this without the generosity and help of local businesses and the people of Colchester who take this charity to their hearts every year.
