A DETECTIVE appealing for witnesses to a hit and run has warned the driver could kill someone if he is not caught.

Essex Police have renewed their appeal for help in finding a silver Ford Focus that drove off after a crash with a 21-year cyclist in Colne Causeway, Colchester.

The cyclist, a student from Colchester, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with serious head injuries after the crash around 4.40pm on Saturday.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.

The cyclist was crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing.

He crossed one line of stationary cars but was then struck by the silver Ford Focus in the second lane.

The car drove off towards the Greenstead roundabout.

The driver and passenger are described as white and aged between 20 and 40.

Detective Inspector Scott Egerton, of Essex Police, said: “We are desperate for anyone who saw the collision or anyone who saw the car before the crash to come forward.

“The car came from the Hythe roundabout towards the Tesco roundabout. We know just after the crash the car was driven onto the Greenstead roundabout but we don’t know where it went after that.

“We know it would have probably cut up other drivers on the Greenstead roundabout.

“Where you on the roundabout? Did you see this car, do you know where it went?”

“This driver, if he is not caught, will do this again. He will seriously injure or kill someone if we cannot get him off the roads.”

The car was on either a 07 or 57 registration plate and police have recovered the silver wing mirror casing from the driver's side which came off during the collision.

The car may have damage to the bonnet and or windscreen.

Anyone who knows where this silver Ford Focus is now or has any other information is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation unit on 101 or via email at collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
