SCHOOL pupils spent the day with a Holocaust survivor.
Essex University hosted a Holocaust event for primary school pupils, which aimed to teach them about the atrocity, which saw six million Jews killed by the Nazis during the Second World War.
Schools have been asked to come up with creative ways to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in UK, in January, and each project will be presented on Wednesday, January 29, during the university’s Holocaust Memorial Week.
Survivor Frank Bright, from Ipswich, spoke to children from across Essex and Suffolk at the event yesterday at the Wivenhoe campus before they split into groups to work on their projects.
Mr Bright’s family fled the Nazis to Czechoslovakia before they were interned and taken to a concentration camp, where his parents were killed.
He worked as a slave labourer until he was liberated.
Mr Bright has since lived in London and Canada, before settling in Suffolk.
