Braintree: Parents fight for damages after mental health unit death
11:00am Sunday 3rd February 2013 in Local News
John Blair died in 2009
The parents of a mentally-ill father who committed suicide are fighting for five-figure damages from the NHS to help support his children.
Duncan and Carole Blair, of Hill Road, Coggeshall, are seeking compensation for their son John’s two young children.
Mr Blair, 40, was found hanging at a mental health unit in Hastings, East Sussex, in October 2009.
The Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which operates Woodlands Centre for Acute Care, is accused of not doing enough to protect Mr Blair from himself.
The former painter and decorator developed mental health problems after suffering a serious head injury in 1993.
