SINGERS are hoping to help the Colchester mayor raise money for charity at a concert on Saturday.

Choristers from the Lexden Chorus are to perform to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, one of mayor Christopher Arnold’s chosen charities for the year.

The choir will be conducted by Sarah Blake and accompanied by Kingfisher Sinfonietta Orchestra leader Beth Spendlove. It will perform tunes by the likes of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Bob Chilcott.

The choir, made up of 80 adults and 20 youth members, will also mark the group’s 20th anniversary.

Sarah Blake, director of music said: “We hope that the people of Colchester will turn out for this concert and give us a very warm welcome.

“Whether you love music or not this is the perfect opportunity to spend your Saturday with friends and family.

Tickets for the event, at St Peter ad Vincula Church, in Church Green, Coggeshall, are priced at £12, with concessions at £10.
