I am writing with regard to the story about parenting advice, headlined: “Kerry’s parenting blogs proving an internet hit”, Gazette (May 24).

As a mother of three, didn’t she realise looking after a family was a full-time job, if done properly, even with disposable nappies, washing machine and all the modern devices?

It’s not just walking them to pre-school, it’s being there for them seven days a week – not only when they are well, but when they aren’t well.

It doesn’t stop at pre-school.

This responsibility should last at least until they are teenagers.

Ideally, when the children are at school, it’s time for jobs at home and preparation for when they come out of school. I applaud Kerry Farrow for giving up her full-time job and giving her time to her children, otherwise why do we have children, only for someone else to look after them?

I brought up three children, so I do understand. I didn’t expect anyone else to bring up my children or that anyone else could do it as well as I could. It has its rewards, believe me. Perhaps there wouldn’t be so many people unemployed, if we went back to one parent working full-time. Certainly, there would be fewer teenagers walking around in gangs with no home life to speak of.
