Fans of George Orwell will be familiar with doublespeak, which Tendring Council appears to have adopted.

Peter Halliday, the boss of finance, tells us that as it spent a shed-load of money on Clacton leisure centre, it would be unfair to spend a smaller amount on Harwich’s rundown services.

So, Harwich has been let down once again.

In the meantime, one wishes engineering company boss Tony Woods luck in his efforts to bring businesses and jobs to the town.

Unfortunately, while our main link road remains a slow single track, with a few blotches of paint to try to prevent accidents, few will take us seriously.
